Celluloid Fronted Greetings Cards.

A collection of Xmas and New Year Greetings Cards with Celluloid fronts.

This collection was bought at a public market several decades ago. After sorting out duplicates and placing the cards in albums, they have lain idle for many years. I have decided to display them on the web for the benefit of Plastics Historians and Greeting Card Enthuiasts.

A search of the web disclosed no specific information regarding the date of the cards. I have assumed that the use of Celluloid, on the front of the cards, started in the late Victorian period. The cards probably went out of use around the time of World War One.

Click on the button below to start viewing. There are a series of linked pages, each displaying up to ten different designs. Clicking on any card image will display a sub page showing the greetings inside the card. If there are different verses using an identical outer card, all versions of the greetings will be displayed.

It should be noted that before WWII the Swastika symbol was considered to be a Good Luck Charm.

If you have any information concerning the printer and dates of these cards - please contact me using the email address shown below.
